Spring is a beautiful time of year to get out and about! Fragrant flowers add extra charm to the historic villages along the Heritage Highway, and adorable baby animals appear in paddocks.

Enjoy the warmer days and sweet sunshine at the Midlands’ springtime festivals and events. We’ve listed 14 of our favourites—have a wonderful time!

1. Ross Marathons

When: Sunday 2 September 2018
Where: Ross

Celebrate the first weekend of spring by running around the outskirts of the historic town of Ross. Choose from the marathon (8am), half marathon (9.30am), or 10km run (10am). Enjoy the sights and friendly atmosphere, and receive enthusiastic claps and cheers from the locals at the finish line.

2. A Night with the Stars

When: Friday 14 September 2018
Where: Blenheim Gallery & Garden, Longford
Cost: Adults $30, kids free (get tickets here)

QVMAG’s Martin George hosts a magical evening of marvelling at the night sky. Gather under the stars at Blenheim Gallery and Garden and take a peek through the telescope (you can also BYO telescope if you have one). Soup and savouries provided, BYO alcohol.

3. Longford Jazz Festival

When: Friday 14 – Sunday 16 September 2018
Where: Various venues around Longford

Jazz lovers will be in heaven at the Longford Jazz Festival! Revel in a weekend of music, meet like-minded folks, and watch talented musicians perform on a wide variety of instruments.

4. Convicts to Classics at Woolmers

When: Sunday 16 September 2018, 10am – 3pm
Where: Woolmers Estate
Cost: Adults $5, u/16 free

Cars and bikes from all eras will be on display in the historic grounds of Woolmers Estate for Shannons Convicts to Classics. Check out the indoor vintage motorcycle display, enjoy live music, grab something tasty from the food and drink stalls, and browse the trade stands.

5. Tasmanian Trout Expo

When: Saturday 22 – Sunday 23 September, 8am – 4pm
Where: Brumby’s Creek, Cressy
Cost: Adults $10 per day, u/14 $5 per day, onlookers free

The Hydro Tasmania/Cressy Community Trout Expo is an annual family favourite! Head along for your chance to catch the $10,000 tagged trout, or other tagged rainbow trout, and win some fantastic prizes. BYO picnic lunch or grab something from the food stalls.

6. Camerata Obscura Concert

When: Sunday 23 September 2018, 2pm
Where: Christ Church, Longford
Cost: Adults $20, concession $15, kids free

Music lovers, head to the Camerata Obsucra Concert at Longford’s historic Christ Church. Revel in the performance of pieces by Roger Barns, Holst, Greig, Schreker, Bartok and Tschaikovsky.

7. Woolmers Wedding Showcase

When: Sunday 14 October 2018, 10am – 3pm
Where: Woolmers Estate
Entry: Free

Blushing brides-to-be and lucky grooms-to-be, head along to the Woolmers Wedding Showcase and get some inspiration for your big day!

8. The Longford Show

When: Saturday 20 October 2018
Where: Longford Show Ground
Cost:
 Adults $12, children $6, family (2 & 2) $30

Head along to the 162nd Longford Show and get amongst all things agricultural. We’re talking show jumping, home industries, utes, sheep handling, feathers, fleece, woodchopping, kennel, reptile rescue, kids entertainment, and more!

9. Tasmanian Chamber Music Festival

When: Friday 26 – Sunday 28 October 2018
Where: Various venues around Evandale
Cost: Tickets available here

Tasmania’s premiere classical music festival is on this spring for the second time ever! The Tasmanian Chamber Music Festival offers an incredible weekend of music in interesting venues, including historic churches and atmospheric barns.

10. Tasmanian Fly Fishing Expo

When: Saturday 10 – Sunday 11 November 2018, 10am – 4pm
Where: Australian Fly Fishing Museum, Clarendon

Fly fishing enthusiasts will have a great time at the Tasmanian Fly Fishing Expo! Watch several international presenters and have a go at the Veniard Fly Tying Club Challenge. You might also like to have a look around historic Clarendon Estate.

11. Effervescence Tasmania

When: Friday 16 – Sunday 18 November 2018
Where: Josef Chromy Wines + other venues
Cost: Tickets available here

Effervescence Tasmania is one of the best sparkling wine festivals in the world, celebrating premium Tasmanian bubbles! Enjoy wine tastings, dinners, and master classes.

12. Longford Blooms Open Gardens

When: Saturday 17 – Sunday 18 November 2018, 9am – 4pm
Where: Longford
Cost: $5 per person

If you’ve ever wanted to stickybeak in other people’s gardens, here is your chance! Several enchanting private gardens around Longford will be open to the public, and some will even have stalls and refreshments.

13. Woomers Festival of Roses

When: Sunday 18 November 2018, 9am – 4pm
Where: Woolmers Estate
Cost: $10 per person

Stop to smell the thousands of roses at this year’s Woolmers Estate Festival of Roses (guided tours of the garden available). Browse the stalls with wine, food, jewellery, plants, art and crafts, and enjoy the great range of family entertainment. The Antique Fair and Art Exhibitions will also be on.

14. Ross Motorcycle Rally

When: Sunday 25 November 2018, 10am start
Where: Ross Oval
Cost: $5 per person

Head along to the 33rd Ross Motorcycle Rally and see all kinds of bikes, from the early 20th century to today! Swap meet is included. Presented by the Vintage Motorcycle Club of Tasmania.
